We are proud to support the communities in which we operate and to reward our employees for the time they invest volunteering.
Through our Parkland Pledge program, we award each of our over 4,500 employees with an annual pledge account which they can direct to the community causes they are most passionate about. In a typical year, our employees distribute around $750,000 through this program.
From March 2020, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we quickly refocused our community support activities.
We paused our Parkland Pledge program, to create and launch an enterprise-wide Community Driven campaign which spanned our Canadian, U.S. and International businesses.
Parkland launched #CommunityDriven, to support the evolving needs of the communities we serve across our network during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of our pandemic response and through the Community Driven program, we supported members of our community with a combination of essential fuel, services and premium healthy snacks. Also, where possible, we invited our customers to lend their support. From mid-March to the October 2020, we proudly contributed over $4 million of support, through diverse activities including:
Fuel discounts to front-line health workers and first responders
Free hot showers, food and snack discounts to truck drivers in some of our Canadian locations
Fuel and health snacks to Food Banks to support delivery services and emergency food hampers
In our International business we supported essential workers and food bank organizations
